Hoops in Hawaii
Taking place on December 22, 23, and 25, eight top teams will pair off in brackets until the champion is determined. The teams, which include Illinois State, San Diego State, San Francisco, and host team Hawaii, will compete in 12 games over the course of the tournament. The event is in its eighth year and is held at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Once the tournament ends, celebrate your team's victory at the Magic of Polynesia show featuring Polynesian entertainment and sleight of hand.
And while the basketball tourney takes place in an indoor arena, you should be sure to spend time enjoying Honolulu and Waikiki outdoors. The tournament's namesake, Diamond Head, dominates one end of Waikiki Beach. It's a fantastic scenic backdrop, or prove your own athletic prowess by tackling the steep climb to the top. And while you may be familiar with basketball from back home, try out the favorite Hawaiian sport of surfing. You can take lessons right at Waikiki Beach.
Hotels in Waikiki are where to stay when you're here for the Diamond Head Classic. The Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber is just steps from Waikiki Beach. Plus your stay includes unlimited rides on the Waikiki Connection Trolley, getting you to everything to you want to do and see in Waikiki.
