As the longest running ethnic celebration in the state of Hawaii, the Cherry Blossom Festival holds a special place in the cultural heart of Honolulu. Every year Queen Contestants come together to honor their Japanese heritage and culture. Through live events and training classes, participants learn new public speaking skills and work on their leadership values.
It all leads up to the Festival Ball on March 26 when a new Cherry Blossom Festival Queen is crowned. As the pinnacle of the festival, this is when Queen Contestants shine bright showing off their poise and self-confidence. This formal evening features the finalists dressed in kimonos flown in from Japan by Diamond Sponsor Watabe Wedding. An honorary panel of judges will select the winner of the 2016 crown as well as First Princess, Miss Popularity, and Miss Congeniality.
Now in its 64th year, this annual tradition celebrates Japanese culture and aims to enrich the lives of young women of Japanese ancestry.
Before the Festival Ball, there are fun events like a golf tournament at Hawaii Prince Golf Course, a public show by the 15 contestants at the Ala Moana Center, and a reception with finalists at Rumours Nightclub. For accommodations near the Cherry Blossom Festival venues, our Waikiki Beach hotel is an excellent choice.
