Taking place on Memorial Day (Monday, May 25), Lantern Floating Hawaii is an evening to honor loved ones, and to generate collective hope throughout the world. Over 40,000 people will gather on Oahu's south shore to float lanterns in this solemn ceremony of gratitude. Beginning with the sound of a Hawaiian conch shell and followed by the oli chant, this peaceful ceremony is an authentic Hawaiian experience. Six large parent lanterns will be carrying prayers for all spirits, on behalf of all people. Soon after, thousands of glowing lanterns will set sail on the ocean with messages of peace and love.
You'll find the Lantern Floating Hawaii ceremony at the Magic Island end of Ala Moana Beach from 6:15PM to 7:30PM. If you would like to float a lantern, you will be able to receive a single individual lantern at the Lantern Request Tent, starting at 10AM on the day of the event. Lanterns are first-come, first-served. Share one lantern per family, so that others can float one too. Many names and messages can be sent on a single lantern. There is no cost to attend or participate; however donations will be accepted. You can also watch the ceremony live on Hawaii News Now KGMB in its entirety. Looking for a place to stay nearby?
