Honolulu Marathon 2016 - Holiday Inn Resort Waikiki Beachcomber

Many people come to Hawaii with dreams of lying on the beach under palm trees. Others come with the dream of running beneath palm trees and past Diamond Head on the Honolulu Marathon, happening this year on December 11. Whether you're a runner or walker, the Honolulu Marathon welcomes you.

Race Day

The event starts at 5am on Sunday, December 11. Runners and walkers are welcomed to the 26.2 mile race. You'll start the race in downtown Honolulu, passing by historic sites like Iolani Palace; the course is mostly flat except for uphills near Diamond Head. (The reward for struggling up that incline a spectacular view of the eastern coastline of Oahu). If you aren't concerned too much about your time, slow down enough to enjoy the view. The race doesn't end until everyone has crossed the finish line and received their medal.

Marathon Expo

The Marathon Expo will run from Thursday, December 8 through Saturday, December 10. Take time to check out the vendors and pick up marathon supplies like sunglasses and sports gels. Massages will make sure your muscles are ready for the race. The expo is also where you pick up your runner's packet, including your bib and timing chip.

Not a Marathoner?

If the marathon distance is too much for you, join in the Kalakaua Merrie Mile on December 10. The run will cover one mile down the avenue and be followed by a beach party. Or come back in spring for the half-marathon on April 9!

Post-Race Recovery

Take advantage of the facilities at your Waikiki hotel to recover after the big race! The Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber is just 300 feet from Waikiki beach, where you can lie on the sand or play in the surf. If your legs are too tired to go even that short distance, take a soothing swim in our pool or head to the spa for a sports massage. They'll have your feet back in shape to continue exploring Oahu in no time.
