Pearl Harbor 75th Commemoration - Holiday Inn Resort Waikiki Beachcomber

Take a moment from your carefree vacation to solemnly remember those who lost their lives. The attack on Pearl Harbor happened here on Oahu 75 years ago, prompting the United States to enter World War II and reshaping the world we live in. Commemorative events this year mark the anniversary of the attack.

Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade

The Grand Marshal at this year's Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade will be Gary Sinise. The actor's foundation is dedicated to serving veterans, first responders, and their families. During the parade, 40-foot models of the vessels that came under attack at Pearl Harbor that dreadful day will be marched down Kalakaua Avenue, a central street in the Waikiki Beach area. The parade will also feature bands and banners and military families. It ends at the Waikiki shell, where there's a concert later in the day.

Weeklong Commemorative Events

Besides the parade on Pearl Harbor Day, there are many other commemorative events throughout the week, including military band performances, a wreath-laying, and movies on Waikiki Beach. Even the Hawaii Marathon takes on the theme of the commemoration, Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future.

Visit Pearl Harbor

Waikiki hotels like the Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber are only a few miles from Pearl Harbor; the National Historic Landmark is open to visitors all year long, not just during the anniversary. Visitors can explore four attractions, including the sunken ship the USS Arizona. The vessel is the final resting place for many of the men who died in the Pearl Harbor attack. Stay at the Beachcomber to pay solemn tribute to these WWII heroes as well as enjoy the sunnier side of vacationing in Hawaii.
