Opening day is always exciting for the loyal football fans who follow the University of Hawaii. But 2016 brings a whole new experience with international appeal. On August 27th, the college football season goes down under for the first-ever Sydney College Football Cup live from Australia. For this exciting game with an Australian accent, the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors will take on an old rival, the Golden Bears of the University of California, Berkeley.
This exciting match-up pits these two teams against each other for the first time since 1994, and the Sydney College Football Cup marks the first time since 1987 that a NCAA football game has taken place in Sydney. The game will take place at ANZ Stadium in Sydney. Constructed in 1999 for the 2000 Summer Olympics, this state-of-the-art field seats up to 83,500 spectators. The whole world will be watching as the University of Hawaii takes the field to represent the student-athletes of the NCAA.
The action may take place across the globe in Sydney, but you can watch it right at our hotel in Waikiki Beach. We are located close to Aloha Stadium, the home of the University of Hawaii football team, so we're used to cheering on the Rainbow Warriors. The game kicks off on August 27th for a historic day of college football. There's never been an opening game like this!
