Pro golfers are coming to Hawaii this January 9-15 to take part in the Sony Open PGA tournament. The tourney's been taking place since 1965, and no wonder: it gives the golf pros a great excuse to visit Hawaii! More than 100 top golfers descend onto Hawaii to participate.
The tournament this year will be held at Waialae Country Club. It'll be easy for spectators to get to the event, with a trolley shuttle from Waikiki, bike valet service, and parking areas with shuttles to the greens.
The club's course starts with a Hole 1 patterned after a famous hole from St. Andrews in Scotland. Streams and lakes add challenge, while the course takes on additional beauty once the ocean comes into view at Hole 9.
Fans can purchase a season badge, which gets you in all week, or a pass for a single day. A special hospitality VIP pass places you in a beautiful oceanside setting at hole 16, with free drinks and food from Hy's Steak House. If you've never been to a golf tournament before, you can try it out for free during practice rounds and the Hawaii Tourism Authority Pro-Jr. Challenge or Fisher Hawaii Satellite Pro-Am.
The past two years, 2014 and 2015, were won by the same pro, Jimmy Walker. Who'll win this year? Come stay with us at Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber and find out. You'll have easy access to the shuttle to the country club for the tournament, and if you want to work on your own golf game, we're only a mile or so from the Ala Wai Golf Course.
